According to the special investigation team of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency on August 12, Mr. A, who lost consciousness due to electrocution and was transported to the hospital on August 4, regained consciousness in the intensive care unit that afternoon. Although he is still unable to speak, it has been reported that his condition has improved to the point where he can recognize faces and turn his head.
Immediately after the accident, Mr. A was taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest and remained unconscious for over a week. Following his recovery of consciousness, his family in Myanmar made urgent plans to come to Korea. Although it was difficult to leave Myanmar due to the ongoing civil war and military coup, with support from the embassy, Mr. A's wife is scheduled to arrive in Korea later today.
The accident occurred at around 1:34 p.m. on August 4 at a construction site in Okgil-dong, Gwangmyeong. Investigations found that Mr. A was electrocuted while inspecting a sump pump installed in an underground water pit. POSCO E&C was responsible for the construction, while subcontractor LT Sambo managed the site.
The police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident, including conducting searches of five offices related to POSCO E&C, LT Sambo, and other involved companies. The special investigation team plans to examine the entire process of electrical equipment maintenance and overall site safety management to determine if any laws were violated.
