Kim Byungman, Ahead of Remarriage, Legally Ends Parental Relationship with Former Stepdaughter... Court Rules for Annulment

A representative from Kim Byungman's agency stated that, in the lawsuit filed by Kim Byungman to annul the adoptive parent-child relationship with his former stepdaughter, identified as A, the Seoul Family Court ruled on August 8 to terminate the adoptive parent-child relationship.

The reason for the decision was not disclosed.

Under current civil law, the requirements for annulling an adoptive parent-child relationship are strictly regulated. Annulment by mutual agreement is not permitted; only judicial annulment is recognized. The law specifies two grounds: first, if the adoptive parent abuses or abandons the adopted child, or otherwise significantly harms the child's welfare; second, if the adopted child commits an act of grave misconduct against the adoptive parent that makes it impossible to maintain the relationship.

Kim Byungman registered his marriage with a non-celebrity woman, identified as B, in 2011 and adopted B's daughter, A, as his own. However, after living separately for more than ten years, the couple announced their separation in 2023.

Kim Byungman is scheduled to hold a wedding ceremony this month with another non-celebrity woman, identified as C, with whom he has two children. The agency representative stated, "After his marriage with B ended, Kim Byungman had children with C."
