The sequel to the 2016 film 'Doctor Strange,' which was watched by 5.44 million people, is set to be released on the 4th under the subtitle 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.' Lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch greeted the Korean press via a video conference on the morning of the 2nd, expressing his gratitude to Korean fans.


The movie 'Doctor Strange: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' is a blockbuster that depicts the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)'s first-ever endless dimensional rift and tangled space-time within a multiverse beyond all imagination. The story follows Stephen Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch), who, after a tragic accident injuring his hands?his everything?meets the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) in Kamar-Taj and embarks on a journey to become a hero.


On this day, Benedict Cumberbatch humorously shared his recent activities, saying, "Doctor Strange has been busy appearing in six Marvel films so far."


Regarding the sequel, he explained, "Through the multiverse, we open another new chapter of the MCU," adding, "America Chavez and I travel through the multiverse, becoming the gateway that invites the audience into the multiverse."


Benedict Cumberbatch, who played multiple roles in the film, said, "It was an incredible challenge," and "The acting process was fascinating." He further explained, "Doctor Strange, with his multi-layered facets, shows various appearances through the multiverse. Visually, we portray multiple versions and possibilities where outcomes differ depending on his decisions."


About the film that opens the MCU Phase 4, he said, "It is an honor to stand at the center of it," emphasizing, "The film carries complex and philosophical questions about 'Who are we?' in reality. The appeal lies in posing and exploring these questions. Above all, viewers will experience tremendous fun through the movie."

Regarding working with director Sam Raimi, who helmed the film, he expressed satisfaction, saying, "He is a director who reacts well, so acting was enjoyable and easy." He continued, "When I was offered the role, I was told it would be a film with many horror elements. It might become the scariest film in MCU history," adding, "For horror film master Sam Raimi, it must have been like a playground."


About the newly introduced LGBTQ character America Chavez in this series, he explained, "There is a meaning of diversity. She possesses incredible abilities to travel through the multiverse." He also asked, "Please watch how the character evolves and what kind of relationship she has with Doctor Strange."


Reflecting the high interest in the film, numerous speculations and rumors have surfaced before its release. Regarding this, Benedict Cumberbatch joked, "It's 100% true," adding, "All your thoughts are correct." However, he drew a line by saying, "I have not heard any facts about the rumors currently circulating online."


He also showed interest in the domestic film market. Benedict Cumberbatch said, "If given the opportunity, I would like to participate in Korean films," adding, "Korea has the best directors and actors. It is a very important market in the film industry, and as a fan who loves Korean films, I definitely want to work on a project someday."
