[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The prosecution has requested a three-year prison sentence for rapper Noel (22, real name Jang Yongjun), who was indicted on charges of refusing a breathalyzer test and assaulting a police officer.

On the 25th, at the sentencing hearing for Jang's case involving violations of the Road Traffic Act (driving without a license) held before Chief Judge Shin Hyukjae of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 4, the prosecution asked the court to issue this sentence.

On September 18 last year, around 10:30 p.m., Jang was driving a Mercedes-Benz passenger car at an intersection in Seocho-gu, Seoul, when he caused a collision with another vehicle. He was arrested on the spot for refusing the breathalyzer test and assaulting a police officer.

In footage revealed during a previous trial, Jang can be seen refusing the breathalyzer test by telling the responding officers, "I didn't drive," while shouting insults such as "Move, you XX," and engaging in a physical struggle with the police in front of the vehicle. After being arrested on the spot by the police, Jang resisted by twisting his body on the road to avoid getting into the patrol car. The police handcuffed him and held both his arms to put him into the vehicle.

The footage also showed Jang assaulting a police officer while inside the vehicle. The audio captured the injured officer screaming in pain and saying, "(Jang) hit my head with his head."

He is the son of Jang Je-won, a member of the People Power Party. In 2019, he was also indicted for driving under the influence and colliding with a motorcycle in Mapo-gu, Seoul, and was sentenced in June 2020 to one year and six months in prison with a two-year probation period.
