Danggeun Market's 'Free Sharing' Increases Fivefold in One Year

Danggeun Market's 'Free Sharing' Increases Fivefold in One Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The local community platform Danggeun Market (co-CEOs Kim Yong-hyun and Kim Jae-hyun) announced on the 11th that the 'free sharing' practice among neighbors exceeded 2.1 million cases last year, increasing more than fivefold compared to the previous year.

Neighborly sharing, which started with about 1,200 cases in 2016, surpassed 28,000 cases in 2017 and soared past 140,000 cases the following year. In 2019, when it was selected as Google Play's 'Best App of the Year,' the number reached 410,000 cases, and last year, with 13 million monthly users, it surged to 2.15 million cases. A Danggeun Market official explained, "Free sharing quickly spread throughout every corner of the neighborhood, becoming the center of a sharing culture that fosters warmth among neighbors," adding, "without anyone prompting, people took the initiative to share with their close neighbors, and that sharing became another sharing, rapidly permeating the local community."

Accordingly, Danggeun Market plans to expand the 'Day of Sharing' in 2021 to include not only goods but also various neighborhood life information and stories. Danggeun Market has designated the 11th of every month as the Day of Sharing to encourage user participation. The 11th symbolizes 1+1, meaning that sharing one doubles the value. They also prepared a user participation event. Among users who practice sharing on the first Day of Sharing of the new year, 111 will be selected by lottery to receive Danggeun Market shopping cart merchandise.
