[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] On the 24th, the government carried out high-ranking police personnel appointments, including the promotion and appointment of Kim Won-jun, Chief of Jeju Provincial Police Agency, to Chief of Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency.
Choi Hae-young, Chief of Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, was transferred and appointed as Superintendent of the Korean National Police University. Jang Ha-yeon, Chief of Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, Song Min-heon, Deputy Commissioner of the National Police Agency, Jin Jeong-mu, Chief of Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, and Kim Byung-gu, Chief of Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, retained their positions.
The rank of Commissioner General is directly below the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency (Chief Commissioner). When the National Investigation Headquarters (Guksubon), headed by a Commissioner General, is launched in January next year, the number of Commissioner Generals will increase from six to seven.
On the same day, the government also announced promotions to Commissioner General for four Senior Superintendents. Park Ji-young, Policy Officer for Informatization Equipment at the National Police Agency, Jeong Yong-geun, dispatched to the Office for Government Policy Coordination, Choi Jong-moon, Acting Superintendent of the Central Police Academy, and Kim Byung-soo, Commander of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Mobile Unit, will be promoted to Commissioner General.
The assignments for those promoted to Commissioner General have not yet been decided. The number of Commissioner Generals in the police organization, which was 27, is expected to increase to 30 due to the introduction of the autonomous police system and the establishment of the National Investigation Headquarters.
