[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the 9th, Pohang City in Gyeongbuk held a meeting with related parties at Janggi-myeon Administrative Welfare Center to discuss the establishment of a new eco-friendly rice production complex and has begun full-scale preparations.
Pohang City plans to newly establish a 59-hectare pesticide-free rice production complex in five villages of Janggi-myeon in 2021 to efficiently respond to the increasing demand for eco-friendly rice. About 20 people, including members of the United Distribution Business Group, officials from the Nonghyup, village representatives, and farmers, attended the meeting.
The five villages of Hakgok, Hakgye, Geumo, Singye, and Changji-ri in Janggi-myeon, where the complex is being promoted, are rice cultivation-centered areas. Pohang City explained that these villages are not only suitable for introducing eco-friendly rice farming methods but also have many advantages, such as the operation of the Nampo-hang Nonghyup rice drying and storage facility (DSC) within the complex.
Kim Geuk-han, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "As a result of continuously fostering eco-friendly agriculture, Pohang ranks second in the province for the largest pesticide-free certified area. We will strive to ensure the successful promotion of the pesticide-free rice production complex in Janggi-myeon so that farmers' incomes can increase."
