[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Kim Jeong-hwa, co-representative of the Minsaeng Party, on the 9th called on former Bareunmirae Party leader Sohn Hak-kyu and senior Honam lawmakers to run in challenging constituencies in the Seoul metropolitan area.

At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Co-representative Kim said, “Our party has several heavyweight politicians at the level of presidential candidates,” and added, “It is time for senior members including former leader Sohn, Jeong Dong-young, Cheon Jeong-bae, and Park Ji-won to make the bold decision to run in difficult constituencies in the metropolitan area.”

Co-representative Kim stated, “There is a need to firmly establish a new image of centrist reform politics. Above all, it is urgent to break away from the old image of being a regional party of the Honam area,” and said, “If the senior members, who are the pillars of the party, show sacrifice first with the spirit of putting the party before themselves, I have no doubt it will be a great strength for the party.”

Regarding the proportional representation coalition party, Co-representative Kim said, “The proportional representation coalition party, which betrays its own principles and even the cause of political reform, will become the grave of the Democratic Party of Korea,” and declared, “The Minsaeng Party will definitely eradicate this unconstitutional, illegal, and anti-democratic satellite party.”

Lee In-hee, a Supreme Council member of the Minsaeng Party, also said, “We expect senior lawmakers to take the lead by fielding our party’s candidates in the metropolitan area, including Jongno, to play the role of the third party. As a member of the leadership, I will also do my best,” and added, “Now, we must form a nationwide election front beyond Honam, and proceed with nominations that meet the public’s expectations and with the spirit of putting the party before oneself.”
