Remarks by Four Opposition Parties at the December 3 Grand Civic March for Social Reform

On the first anniversary of the December 3 Martial Law, the four opposition parties-the Innovation Party for the Nation, the Progressive Party, the Basic Income Party, and the Social Democratic Party-criticized the People Power Party, the prosecution, and the judiciary at a civic event, stating that the reckoning with insurrection is still ongoing.

At the "December 3 Reckoning and End of Insurrection and Treason, Grand Civic March for Social Reform" held in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido on December 3, Cho Kuk, leader of the Innovation Party for the Nation, said, "Yoon Suk-yeol and Kim Keon-hee have gone to prison, and so have the main perpetrators of the insurrection, but the insurrection is not over. Yoon Suk-yeol's group is lying in wait, seeking a comeback."

Cho continued, "What about the People Power Party? They are still chanting 'Yoon Again' and believe in conspiracy theories about election fraud. They are collaborating with the New Right. And what about the prosecution? The prosecution, which served as a tool for the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, is constantly seeking to return." He added, "The courts, which remained silent during the insurrection and retaliated during the presidential election, have not even reflected on their actions. Nevertheless, we will win, because you are here."

Cho asked, "Are you determined to completely eradicate the forces of insurrection and build a new Republic of Korea after the insurrection? Are you ready for that resolve? Do you have that courage?" The audience responded, "Yes."

He went on to say, "We will continue to fight to the end for the complete defeat of the insurrectionist forces, the reckoning with the insurrection, and for the Republic of Korea. Please stand with us."

Yong Hyein, leader of the Basic Income Party, also stated, "The reckoning with the insurrection is still ongoing," and added, "The far-right insurrectionist forces, united under 'Yoon Again,' have not collapsed." Yong pointed out, "What does the shoddy proceedings and mass dismissal of warrants, as confirmed through the broadcast of the insurrection trials, mean?" She continued, "There is growing concern that the judiciary under Cho Hee-dae is trying to topple the hard-won achievements."

Yong further emphasized, "Our National Assembly must take a firmer stance," and criticized, "Follow-up legislative measures are not even being properly reviewed." She added, "There is no need to hesitate to replace the judges handling the insurrection cases or to launch a second special prosecutor investigation."

Kim Jayeon, standing leader of the Progressive Party, criticized Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, for his social media comment that "martial law was a response to parliamentary tyranny." Kim stated, "What should we do about a party that claims the insurrection was justified?" and added, "The People Power Party must choose whether to confess and pay for their crimes before the people, or to be buried in the sea of history along with the wreckage of the insurrection."

Han Changmin, leader of the Social Democratic Party, said, "We will strive to ensure that our revolution of light truly transforms the Republic of Korea as a revolution should."

Meanwhile, Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party, also stated, "The war against the insurrection continues," and asserted, "We must suppress the forces chanting 'Yoon Again' and the judicial coup that dismissed the warrants for Park Sungjae and Chu Kyungho." Jeong declared, "We will create a dedicated court for insurrection cases, suppress the judicial coup, and restore democracy once again."
