Operations Suspended After Sudden Closure of Entrance
Unpaid Maintenance Fees and Delayed Staff Salaries
Financial Losses Expected to Reach Hundreds of Millions of Won
A large sports center in Busan has sparked controversy after suddenly shutting its doors overnight, with its CEO disappearing without notice.
On December 2, Busan Bukbu Police Station announced that it is investigating a certain sports center that abruptly went out of business after collecting membership fees and other payments. The center is reported to have had as many as 1,000 members.
The center has suspended operations since November 30, closing its entrance without any prior notice.
The center had been operating in the neighborhood for over 10 years and continued to recruit new members right up until its closure. Members, who had already paid for memberships and lesson fees, are expressing anger and frustration as they report financial losses.
Currently, about 30 to 40 complaints have been filed with the police, and considering the total number of members, the number of victims is expected to increase further. The total financial damage is projected to reach several hundred million won. The center also failed to pay approximately 40 million won in maintenance fees, which is likely to cause losses for other business owners in the building. It has also been confirmed that the center repeatedly failed to pay staff salaries.
A police official stated, "We are still trying to determine the total number of members at the center," adding, "We have only recently received complaints and have just begun the investigation, so we need to look into the specific circumstances."
