Building an Integrated Platform for Technology, Education, and Culture

Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) and Busan University of Foreign Studies (President Jang Soonheung) announced on December 3 that they held an opening ceremony for the "Noksan Open Campus," a comprehensive industry-academia cooperation hub encompassing industrial sites, workers, and multicultural families in western Busan, at the Noksan Innovation Support Center on December 2.

The Noksan Open Campus aims to establish a model for supporting industrial park-based companies, nurturing talent, and expanding the local community by linking Pusan National University's RISE (Regional Innovation-led University Support System) project with Busan University of Foreign Studies' specialized programs. In particular, it will provide a one-stop platform for technology consulting, research and development project matching, and workforce training needed by manufacturing-centered companies in the Noksan National Industrial Complex. By integrating support functions for foreign workers and multicultural families, it will serve as a platform for mutual growth among local industry, community, and universities.

The opening ceremony was attended by Choi Jaewon, President of Pusan National University, Jang Soonheung, President of Busan University of Foreign Studies, as well as the Director of the Youth-Industry-Academia Bureau of Busan City, the President of the Busan Economic Promotion Agency, the Chairman of the Noksan National Industrial Complex Management Council, the Head of the Busan-Ulsan Chapter of the INNOBIZ Association, and other representatives from industry, academia, research, and government, who celebrated the launch of this innovation platform based on the regional industrial complex.

Jointly operated by the two universities, the Noksan Open Campus is an industrial complex-type industry-academia cooperation platform that combines support for technology, education, language, culture, and exports, providing an integrated service system accessible to both companies and workers. Pusan National University is responsible for receiving and addressing company challenges, supporting technology linkages, offering customized training for employees, and advancing technology transfer and industry-academia cooperation. Busan University of Foreign Studies will provide Korean language education for multicultural families, interpretation, counseling, and living support for foreign workers, and operate an export response center to strengthen the capabilities of export-oriented companies.

Choi Jaewon, President of Pusan National University, stated, "The Noksan National Industrial Complex has been a solid pillar supporting the growth of Busan in fields such as machinery, shipbuilding, and automotive parts. Amid the era of AI, digital transformation, and global supply chain restructuring, the Noksan Open Campus will represent a new challenge, as universities take on the issues of industrial sites as research projects."
