Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced on November 28, 2025, that it has selected "Seonangbawi Rock" in Goseong County as the "Geological and Ecological Attraction" for December 2025.

Goseong's Seonangbawi Rock is a unique granite weathering landform created over a long period by repeated deep weathering and wave erosion, and is considered a representative geological landscape of the Goseong coastline.

In particular, the "Seonangbawi Rock," shaped like a traditional Korean rice cake due to the alternating layers of granite and rhyolite, and the "Buchaebawi Rock," which has developed a mushroom-like form through differential erosion, stand out as distinctive rock formations created by natural weathering, highlighting their high geological and geomorphological value.

Recognizing this geological significance, the site was designated as a geological attraction in the Gangwon Peace Region National Geopark in 2014.

Meanwhile, the area around Seonangbawi Rock is home to a variety of tourism and ecological experience facilities, including the Songjiho Visitor Center, Neungpadae, and the Oho! VR Marine Adventure Center, making it easy for visitors to explore the region in connection with these sites.

The nearby △Songjiho Visitor Center (opened in October) offers seasonal educational programs such as migratory bird watching and beachcombing exhibitions and experiences, and visitors can enjoy both the winter lake and coastal scenery along the 10.2-kilometer Songjiho Trail.

Additionally, △Neungpadae (a geological attraction in the Gangwon Peace Region National Geopark) is a coastal landform where large-scale honeycomb-shaped tafoni have developed, serving as a representative site that, along with Seonangbawi Rock, showcases the geological and geomorphological diversity of the Goseong coastline. △The Oho! VR Marine Adventure Center offers sports and experience-based content that can be enjoyed regardless of weather or season, making it especially popular among family visitors.

An official from Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province stated, "Goseong's Seonangbawi Rock is a place where the unique beauty of landforms shaped by waves and wind stands out, making it perfect for appreciating the serene beauty of the winter coastline," adding, "As the year comes to a close, we hope you will explore Goseong's geological and ecological resources connecting Songjiho and Neungpadae, and experience the rest and healing that nature provides."
