Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province recently completed the signboard (landscape) improvement project in the Music Station 1939 street area. The renovation targeted 20 buildings and 31 businesses in the area, starting in January this year, with a total of approximately 230 million won from the Outdoor Advertising Development Fund invested in the project.

Until now, the Music Station 1939 street area had suffered from a proliferation of advertisements and aging buildings, which detracted from the cityscape and led to a stagnant street atmosphere. To address this, the county launched the first phase of the signboard improvement project in 2020 through a Gyeonggi Province public contest. However, due to insufficient funding, some sections remained unfinished.

This year, Gapyeong County utilized the Outdoor Advertising Development Fund to carry out the second phase of the signboard improvement project in the previously incomplete section, stretching from 4-2 Orinamugil to 3-1 Guldarigil, thereby completing the overall landscape of the street. In particular, the county avoided uniform designs and instead applied highly readable, customized signboard designs and a variety of exterior finishing materials to highlight the individuality of each business. As a result, the new color schemes harmonize with the atmosphere of Music Station 1939, bringing new vibrancy to the entire street.

A county official stated, "Through this signboard improvement project, illegal and substandard advertisements have been addressed, creating a more pleasant street environment, which is expected to attract more visitors. The creation of this specialized street will also help revitalize local alley businesses and increase the income of small business owners."

Since 2011, starting with the commercial area around Gapyeong Bus Terminal, Gapyeong County has continuously promoted signboard improvement projects in areas such as Cheongpyeong downtown, Gahwa-ro in Gapyeong-eup, and the Music Station 1939 street, striving to enhance the urban landscape and advance outdoor advertising practices.
