Previously, in May, Donghwa Electrolite signed a contract with a global battery cell manufacturer to supply 20,000 tons of electrolyte for energy storage systems (ESS). The company is preparing to begin production and local delivery in Malaysia next year.

The plant expansion is scheduled for completion in July 2026. Once the construction is finished, the annual production capacity at the Malaysian site will increase from the current 10,000 tons to 26,000 tons, and the company's total global production capacity will expand to approximately 170,000 tons per year.

Donghwa Electrolite operates plants in Malaysia, South Korea, China, Hungary, and the United States. The company also plans to accelerate its strategy to respond to rising demand and secure additional customers. Southeast Asia is emerging as a new hub for the global battery industry, driven by high economic growth rates, geopolitical advantages, and abundant manufacturing infrastructure. Major Asian battery cell manufacturers are also increasing their investments in the region.

Kim Wonbae, Head of Operations at Donghwa Electrolite, stated, "This expansion is a strategic move to not only meet the electrolyte demand in Southeast Asia but also to prepare for securing additional customers. We will closely monitor the market and proactively review future investment opportunities to strengthen our competitiveness."
