The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will conduct a special inspection of developmental rehabilitation service providers in the province from December 1 to 19.
Developmental rehabilitation service providers are designated by city and county governments to offer developmental rehabilitation services such as language, cognitive, sensory-motor, behavioral, and play therapy to children with disabilities during their growth period. Facilities such as therapy rooms, welfare centers, and centers that provide services using developmental rehabilitation vouchers (including language therapy, art therapy, music therapy, etc.) fall under the category of “service providers.”
From June to October this year, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government conducted a comprehensive inspection of 694 out of 753 developmental rehabilitation service providers, excluding those that had suspended or closed their operations. As a result, 27 providers were found to have made improper claims or failed to meet facility standards.
This special inspection will focus on providers that have made improper claims or failed to meet facility standards, with particular attention to issues identified in previous inspections.
Through this special inspection, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government aims to prevent recurring deficiencies at an early stage, reduce the risk of improper benefit claims, and enhance the trust of children with disabilities and their guardians in the services provided. In addition, based on the inspection results, the government plans to identify areas requiring policy improvement and work with local governments to recommend enhancements to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
Kim Hoon, Director-General of Welfare at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, stated, “Developmental rehabilitation services have a significant impact on the development and daily functioning of children with disabilities, making responsible operation by service providers essential. Through this special inspection, we will systematically address recurring deficiencies and create a service environment that residents can trust.”
