Attempted Kidnapping and Murder of Small Business Owner in Apartment Parking Lot... Two Indicted and Detained

A man in his 30s and his accomplice have been brought to trial after attempting to kidnap and murder a small business owner in an apartment parking lot.

On November 26, the Criminal Division 1 of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office (headed by Chief Prosecutor Lee Donghyun) announced that it had changed the charge against Mr. A (38), who was referred by the police on charges of aggravated assault, to attempted robbery-murder and indicted him under detention. Prosecutors also detained and indicted Mr. B (32), an accomplice, on charges including aiding and abetting robbery and injury, for specifically discussing the crime plan with Mr. A and managing the tools used in the crime.

Mr. A is accused of attempting to murder Mr. C (61), a small business owner, by wielding blunt objects and other weapons in the underground parking lot of an apartment complex in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, in July this year. At the time, Mr. C narrowly escaped from Mr. A but suffered injuries to his face and head that required two weeks of medical treatment.

Investigations revealed that Mr. A and others had planned to kidnap a wealthy individual, steal valuables, and commit murder in order to escape financial difficulties.

Separately from this incident, it was also found that they followed a jewelry store owner (59) operating in Incheon with the intent to steal gold bars and other valuables, and prepared tools for the crime such as a stun gun and anesthetics.

A prosecution official stated, "Through supplementary investigations, we have identified the motive for the crime, uncovered the existence of accomplices, and additionally revealed preparations for robbery," adding, "We will respond strictly to violent crimes that threaten the daily lives of the public."
