On November 26, the Daejeon Office of Education awarded a total of 53.35 million won in Daejeon Happy Education Foundation Sports Excellence Scholarships to 78 student athletes (22 elementary school students, 34 middle school students, and 21 high school students) who placed in prestigious sports competitions such as the National Sports Festival and the National Winter Sports Festival.

The Daejeon Office of Education selected outstanding scholarship recipients based on their competition results, awarding each student between 650,000 and 750,000 won in scholarship funds.

This scholarship was provided to encourage students who achieved the best results in history at the National Sports Festival and the National Youth Sports Festival in 37 years, and the total amount awarded is also the largest ever.

The Daejeon Office of Education established the Daejeon Metropolitan City School Sports Scholarship Association in 1992 and has since carried out scholarship programs for student athletes. In September 2021, to more efficiently support students, the sports scholarship association was integrated into the Daejeon Happy Education Foundation, and for over 30 years, the office has continued scholarship programs to encourage award-winning athletes and promote sports education.

Superintendent Seol Dongho stated, "We will do our utmost to support athletes who achieved the best results ever through hard work and passion, so that they can grow into world-class athletes who represent Daejeon and bring honor to Korea, like fencer Oh Sanguk and track and field athlete Woo Sanghyeok, both of whom are from Daejeon."
