28-Story Mixed-Use Complex Planned
Expected to Serve as a MICE Tourism Hub
New Urban Planning Road to Be Established
A 28-story mixed-use complex featuring commercial facilities and a hotel will be constructed in the area surrounding Wangsimni Station.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 13th that it held the 18th Urban and Architectural Joint Committee meeting and approved, with modifications, the “District Unit Plan Decision (Draft) for 293-11 Haengdang-dong, Seongdong-gu” related to the “Wangsimni Station Area Revitalization Project.”
The site is a major metropolitan transportation hub where six subway lines intersect, located at the Wangsimni metropolitan base, a key strategic point in northeastern Seoul. The area is densely populated with major public institutions such as Seongdong District Office, the district council, and Seongdong Police Station, making it a focal point for public services, commerce, and cultural activities. Currently, the site is being used as a parking lot.
With this decision, the site will undergo mixed-use development aimed at expanding tourism infrastructure in the Wangsimni area. An eight-story underground and 28-story above-ground complex will be built, featuring a hotel, convention center, and neighborhood living facilities. Once the development is complete, the area is expected to serve as a “MICE tourism hub” that integrates public services and commercial activities.
Following this district unit plan decision, the project will proceed through architectural committee reviews and other permitting procedures, with construction scheduled to begin in the first half of next year and completion targeted for 2028.
Additionally, a previously expired urban planning road will be newly established to resolve the disconnection between Gosanja-ro and the adjacent streets. The plan includes creating open spaces and pedestrian walkways along Gosanja-ro that citizens can freely use, and fostering a vibrant street environment by linking these spaces with commercial and cultural facilities.
A Seoul city official stated, “With the introduction of multi-functional facilities such as a hotel, convention center, neighborhood living facilities, and locally needed amenities through the Wangsimni Station area revitalization project, new vitality will be brought to the Wangsimni community. In particular, the addition of a five-star tourist accommodation is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the competitiveness of northeastern Seoul and establishing its function as a metropolitan center.”
