GS Caltex was awarded the Gyeonggi Province Governor's Commendation on Firefighters' Day in recognition of its installation of dedicated fire suppression systems at electric vehicle charging stations.

GS Caltex announced on November 13 that it received the commendation from the Governor of Gyeonggi Province on the 63rd Firefighters' Day for installing equipment to address fire risks that may occur during charging. This recognition comes as the company became the first domestic oil refiner to introduce electric vehicle fire suppression systems at four "Energy Plus Hub" locations-Sambang, Naegok, Jukjeon, and Dalmaji. Fires involving electric vehicle batteries are difficult to extinguish due to rapid thermal runaway and pose a high risk of secondary damage if on-site personnel attempt to respond directly, which has led to a consistent demand for a dedicated initial response system.

The system installed by GS Caltex is designed to spray water from nozzles fixed beneath the charging vehicles, preventing the spread of flames. Its purpose is to suppress rapid temperature increases and secure critical initial response time before fire trucks arrive. GS Caltex explained that it established equipment standards tailored to urban charging environments, including calculating the necessary water storage based on the location of charging stations and the estimated arrival time of fire trucks.
