According to Gapyeong-gun on November 12, the county temporarily opened the old Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute from October 25 to November 9, providing the maple-covered walking paths within the institute as a healing space for residents and tourists.
The old Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute in Cheongpyeong is usually off-limits to the general public, but it opens temporarily only for the cherry blossom road in spring and the maple road in autumn. Although many noted that this year’s autumn foliage was less vibrant than usual due to frequent rainfall nationwide, the institute’s maple road still showcased its beauty, with red and yellow leaves harmonizing against the backdrop of the reservoir.
During the event, visitors enjoyed a variety of programs, including photo zones around the koi carp reservoir, writing wish notes, a fish-feeding experience for children, and social media certification events. On weekends, live busking performances by local artists and a marketplace for regional agricultural and specialty products further enlivened the atmosphere.
A county official stated, “Through this event, a space that was usually closed to the public has been transformed into an open venue for residents,” adding, “We will continue to organize various events so that it can serve as a resting place for the local community.”
Meanwhile, during the same period, the “2025 Korea Fisheries Expo - Traveling Direct Seafood Market” was also held, promoting the excellence of domestic seafood and recording sales of about 7 million won. The organizers donated seafood products worth 3 million won, including dried laver, anchovies, and seaweed, to the Gapyeong Senior Welfare Center, sharing warmth with the local community.
