Korea's First "Digital Robotic Surgical Microscope"... Southeastern Regional Radiation Medical Center Unveils the Future Operating Room at International Conference

Kim Jeongsu, Chief of Neurosurgery at the Southeastern Regional Radiation Medical Center, drew attention when he presented his clinical experience with the country's first digital robotic surgical microscope (Exoscope) at the Autumn International Conference of the Korean Neurosurgical Society, held recently at the Grand InterContinental Parnas in Seoul.

During the clinical workshop on cerebrovascular diseases, Chief Kim shared various cases of aneurysm clipping surgeries and surgical outcomes using the digital robotic surgical microscope, under the theme "Exoscope-Assisted Cerebrovascular Surgery."

The Exoscope, introduced at the Southeastern Regional Radiation Medical Center earlier this year, is a state-of-the-art device that overcomes the limitations of conventional optical microscopes. It allows surgeons to observe the surgical area in 3D and ultra-high-definition 4K resolution through a compact digital microscope mounted on a robotic arm. This enables the surgeon to maintain a stable posture and focus on the procedure, while also allowing for precise visualization of areas that are difficult to access with traditional microscopes, thereby minimizing damage to healthy tissue.

Chief Kim introduced 14 clinical cases of aneurysm surgery to date, stating, "The digital microscope is a next-generation device that surpasses the limitations of conventional optical microscopes, offering excellent image quality and convenience." He added, "As technology advances and adoption becomes more widespread, it will be utilized not only in cerebrovascular surgery but also in various other surgical fields."

The Southeastern Regional Radiation Medical Center has been working to strengthen essential medical services in the community by introducing advanced equipment such as the latest robotic surgical microscope, angiography machines, and AI-based MRI devices, coinciding with the opening of the Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center in June this year.
