Warmer Than Usual for This Time of Year
Brief Cold Snap Early Next Week
This weekend, most regions across the country are expected to experience periods of rainfall.
As of 7:30 a.m. on November 8, easterly winds passing over the East Sea are forming rain clouds, resulting in rain over parts of the eastern coast of Gangwon Province and the northern east coast of North Gyeongsang Province.
It is expected that the northern east coast and northeastern mountainous areas of North Gyeongsang Province will receive intermittent rainfall of 5 to 10 millimeters until the morning, while the eastern coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province will see 5 to 20 millimeters of rain through the afternoon.
Separate from the rain on the east coast, a trough approaching from southern China will bring rain to Jeju Island starting in the morning, to the coastal areas of South Jeolla Province from late afternoon, and to the rest of the southern regions and southern Chungcheong Province from nighttime.
Rain is expected to continue in Chungcheong and the southern regions until the morning of November 9, and on Jeju Island until the afternoon of November 9. Additionally, light rain is forecast for the Seoul metropolitan area and the western part of Gangwon Province between dawn and afternoon on November 9.
Expected precipitation amounts are as follows: Jeju Island, 10 to 60 millimeters; the southern coast, 10 to 40 millimeters; Gwangju, South Jeolla, Busan, Ulsan, inland South Gyeongsang, Daegu, and southern North Gyeongsang, 5 to 20 millimeters; North Jeolla, central North Gyeongsang, northern North Gyeongsang, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo, 5 to 10 millimeters; and less than 5 millimeters in the Seoul metropolitan area, the five West Sea islands, and the western part of Gangwon Province.
During the weekend, morning temperatures will be higher than the seasonal average (2 to 11 degrees Celsius), while daytime temperatures will be similar to or slightly above the average (13 to 19 degrees Celsius).
The high temperature on November 8 is forecast to range from 13 to 21 degrees Celsius. On November 9, the morning low will be between 8 and 15 degrees Celsius, and the high will be between 15 and 22 degrees Celsius.
At the beginning of next week, a high-pressure system expanding from the Shandong Peninsula in China over the West Sea will cause cold air from the north to move southward, resulting in a brief cold snap. The temperature drop between the morning of November 9 and the morning of November 10 is expected to be 4 to 8 degrees Celsius.
On the mornings of November 10 and 11, temperatures in the inland northern Gyeonggi region, mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, and high-altitude areas in the southern regions may fall below freezing, although it is not expected to be a severe cold wave. On November 10, morning lows are forecast to be 0 to 11 degrees Celsius, with highs of 11 to 17 degrees Celsius. On November 11, morning lows will range from -1 to 7 degrees Celsius, and highs from 13 to 18 degrees Celsius.
Until November 8, high tides will cause sea levels to be higher than usual. In the central East Sea and the offshore waters of northern North Gyeongsang Province, strong waves are expected until the morning, and in the remaining southern East Sea and the far southeastern South Sea, rough seas will persist through the afternoon.
In addition, on the afternoon of November 9 in the far central East Sea, at dawn on November 10 in the far southern East Sea, and from the morning of November 10 in the far southeastern South Sea and the far southern waters off Jeju Island, strong winds of 35 to 60 kilometers per hour (10 to 16 meters per second) and waves of 1.5 to 4.0 meters are expected.
Continuous swells are expected along the east coast, so caution is advised against high waves that may crash over rocks or breakwaters.
