Hyundai E&C Wins Three Smart Construction Innovation Awards

Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on the 7th that it received the Grand Prize for Innovation in both the Building Information Modeling (BIM) and railway categories at the 2025 Smart Construction Challenge awards ceremony. Including the innovation award received in the residential complex and housing category, the company won a total of three awards.

This awards ceremony is an event hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Construction Companion Committee to promote and spread smart construction technologies. Awards are given in five categories: BIM, railway, residential complex and housing, roads, and safety management. The AI-based pre-construction (pre-con) solution, which won the BIM category award, is a technology that links pre-construction data at the design stage to refine processes and quantities. It was proposed through a consortium with ITM Architects, BimsOnTop Engineering, and Gachon University. The company explained that its safety management technology, which utilizes virtual reality (VR) to assess risks and enables multiple workers to share construction status through a common data environment, received high praise.

The AI Smart Safety System, which won the award in the railway category, is a safety management platform jointly submitted with Inonet and IVS. Building on TV frequency white space communication technology first introduced at an underground tunnel site in 2021, the system has been further enhanced through application at various sites. By integrating AI video recognition and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors in real time, it helps prevent underground safety accidents. A construction site material transport robot, developed in collaboration with Samsung C&T, received the award in the residential complex and housing category. The robot employs SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technology, which enables it to recognize its surroundings, create maps, and determine its own location autonomously.
