Ministers Sung-Hwan Kim and Young-Hoon Kim: "Every Effort for Rescue Operations of Workers Buried in Ulsan Thermal Power Plant"

Safety Inspections to Be Conducted at Power Plant Construction and Dismantling Sites

Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment Sung-Hwan Kim and Minister of Employment and Labor Young-Hoon Kim requested on November 7 that every effort be made to ensure the rescue operations for those buried in the Ulsan Thermal Power Plant collapse accident.


The two ministers made this statement during the second meeting of the Central Accident Response Headquarters for the thermal power plant collapse, held that morning at the Ulsan Regional Headquarters of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency with relevant agencies. The meeting was attended by the two ministers, Democratic Party lawmakers Kim Taeseon and Kim Sangwook, as well as representatives from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, National Fire Agency, National Police Agency, Ulsan Metropolitan City, and Nam-gu District Office.


During the meeting, they reviewed the rescue situation from the previous night and discussed the direction of the second day's rescue operations for the prompt recovery of those buried, as well as support measures by each agency.

Minister of Employment and Labor Young-Hoon Kim expressed his deepest condolences regarding the confirmation that one of the workers trapped during the previous night's rescue operations had died, and extended heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.


Minister Kim urged local governments to provide thorough support to the families, and requested that the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency ensure psychological counseling for the injured and witnesses through the operation of trauma centers.


He also called on the National Fire Agency and related organizations to do their utmost in the rescue operations so that the trapped workers can return safely.


Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment Sung-Hwan Kim emphasized the need to mobilize all available human and material resources to carry out swift rescue operations before the golden time passes, so that those still awaiting rescue can return safely to their families.


He added, "We will also conduct safety inspections at similar sites, such as power plant construction and dismantling sites, to prevent similar accidents from occurring."
