According to military authorities on November 6, Jinyoungseung, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently issued an order to replace all JCS generals as well as all lieutenant colonels and colonels who have served for more than two years. This move is reportedly part of a personnel overhaul in response to the aftermath of the martial law.

As a result, approximately 40 generals currently assigned to the JCS will be reassigned to the Ministry of National Defense and each branch of the military, with external generals expected to fill their positions. Lieutenant colonels whose promotions have been finalized are expected to be replaced by the end of this month, while colonels and generals are expected to be replaced as early as next month or in January of next year.

Since the inauguration of the Lee Jaemyung administration, the military has emphasized personnel renewal following the December 3 Martial Law. Earlier, in the first round of general officer appointments announced in early September under the Lee Jaemyung administration, all seven incumbent four-star generals who were part of the military leadership at the time of the martial law were retired.
