1.46km Disconnected Section of Goseong East Coast Road to Be Opened... Northern Tourism to Flourish

Goseong Coastal Road Connection Between Bongho-ri and Songjuk-ri Moves Forward
Set to Open in 2028... Detours Eliminated and Accessibility Improved

Goseong-gun in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Ham Myungjun) announced on November 6 that it will begin full-scale implementation of the 'East Coast Northern Scenic Road Construction Project' to resolve inconveniences caused by the disconnection of the coastal road between Bongho-ri in Ganseong-eup and Songjuk-ri in Geojin-eup, and to improve tourism accessibility.

Currently, this section is not connected by road, forcing local residents and tourists to detour through downtown Ganseong when visiting major northern attractions such as the Unification Observatory and Hwajinpo.

Accordingly, Goseong-gun proposed this project as a new initiative under the '2026 Coastal and Inland Development Project,' and it was ultimately selected. The county plans to officially launch the project starting next year.

This project involves constructing a road to connect the 1.46-kilometer disconnected section, including 1.27 kilometers of road expansion, the construction of a 192-meter bridge, and the installation of a combined bike and pedestrian path.

The total project cost is 20.1 billion won. In 2026, the county will negotiate compensation for 23 privately owned land parcels affected by the road with a budget of 900 million won, and construction will begin in 2027 with the goal of completion by December 2028.

Ham Myungjun, Governor of Goseong-gun, stated, "Once this disconnected section of the coastal road is connected, travel distances will be shortened, greatly improving accessibility and enhancing the convenience of residents' daily lives. We also expect it to significantly contribute to balanced regional development and improved convenience for tourists based on coastal infrastructure."
