This expo is organized by Gangwon Domin Ilbo, and the province, together with Wonju City, plans to operate the Gangwon Semiconductor Promotion Pavilion, Semiconductor Industry Promotion Zone, and XR Experience Zone, focusing on various content that residents can experience and participate in.
At the Gangwon Semiconductor Promotion Pavilion, the province will introduce its major semiconductor development policies, including plans for establishing a Gangwon-style semiconductor cluster, corporate support systems, and the current status of testbed construction. In addition, a workforce training program centered on the Korea Semiconductor Academy and a semiconductor fab experience space utilizing XR devices will be set up so that youth and residents can vividly experience the industrial field.
The Semiconductor Industry Promotion Zone will feature a full-cycle themed exhibition covering semiconductor design, front-end, and back-end processes. It will introduce key research industries and industrial infrastructure such as the Semiconductor Joint Research Institute (Kangwon National University), the Medical AI Semiconductor Professional Training Center (Yonsei University Mirae Campus), the Semiconductor Consumables Demonstration Center (Gangwon Technopark), and the Future Vehicle Electronic Components and System Semiconductor Reliability Verification Center (KTC). Five semiconductor-related companies from the province will also showcase and promote their businesses at the event.
The province aims to operate the expo so that residents and youth can easily understand the structure and processes of the semiconductor industry and directly experience that the semiconductor industry is the future growth engine of Gangwon.
Governor Kim Jin-tae stated, "Today's expo is an even hotter scene than the recently popular Kanbu Chicken," adding, "The recent Kanbu gathering involving Samsung, Hyundai, and Nvidia drew attention, but this is not someone else's story. It is about Gangwon, where semiconductor, future vehicle, and Nvidia Education Center projects are being pursued."
He continued by quoting Nvidia's Jensen Huang, saying, "As Jensen Huang emphasized that there is no industry that does not need artificial intelligence, AI is not a matter of choice but a matter of who leads the way." He added, "Three years ago, when we proposed starting the semiconductor industry in Wonju, there were various opinions, but now is the time to lead future industries in line with the AI era."
