Uijeongbu City Holds Mid-Term Briefing on Economic Free Zone Designation Project
Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Donggeun) held a mid-term briefing session for the "Designation of Uijeongbu City Economic Free Zone Project" at the City Hall Hoeryong Hall on the 5th, in order to establish detailed plans for the designation of an economic free zone.

The city was selected in April as a candidate site for the additional designation of economic free zones in Gyeonggi Province, drawing attention as a future growth hub in the northern region of the Seoul metropolitan area.
An economic free zone is a special economic area where various tax benefits and regulatory incentives are provided to promote foreign investment and attract high-tech industries. In particular, it allows for the relaxation of industrial capacity regulations imposed under the "Capital Region Readjustment Planning Act" on overconcentration control zones. This can contribute to attracting investment from global companies, creating quality jobs, and revitalizing the local economy.
At this briefing session, more than 20 participants-including experts in industry, urban planning, and investment attraction, relevant department officials, Uijeongbu Urban Corporation, and representatives from the project contractor-focused on discussing differentiated strategies for industrial development and step-by-step implementation plans for the Uijeongbu City Economic Free Zone, which is being promoted in the returned military site area.
Mayor Kim Donggeun stated, "The push to designate Uijeongbu City as an economic free zone, which has long faced development restrictions due to overlapping regulations such as overconcentration control and greenbelt zones, marks a new starting point for realizing the city's potential." He added, "We will actively reflect the expert opinions presented today and establish a development plan that leverages Uijeongbu City's unique strengths."
Going forward, the city plans to closely cooperate with Gyeonggi Province to refine the development plan based on the feedback from this project, accelerate efforts to attract companies, and build public consensus through forums, thereby expediting the process of designating the economic free zone.
