The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, it has urgently established the Central Accident Response Headquarters to support the response to the structural collapse that occurred at the Ulsan Thermal Power Plant on November 6.
According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor, at around 2:00 PM on the same day, a large structure collapsed at the Ulsan Thermal Power Plant operated by Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd. in Yongjam-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan, resulting in several workers at the site being buried. As of now, it is estimated that seven workers have been trapped.
In response, Minister Kim, Ryu Hyuncheol, Director General of the Occupational Safety and Health Headquarters, and Lee Minjae, Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Policy Office, immediately rushed to the accident site to oversee the response efforts. The Central Accident Response Headquarters plans to provide prompt and systematic support.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor stated, "In order to thoroughly determine the cause of the accident, we will actively pursue compulsory investigations such as search and seizure, and will conduct swift and rigorous investigations into potential violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act."
