Pohang City successfully concluded the 2025 Pohang International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Forum (POFC 2025) on November 6 at the Lahan Hotel Pohang, with over 200 domestic and international hydrogen industry experts in attendance.

Celebrating its fourth year, this year's forum was held under the theme "Hydrogen Economy for a Sustainable Future: Innovation and Challenges," serving as a platform for in-depth discussions on global trends in hydrogen technology and strategies for expanding the industrial ecosystem.


In the keynote speech, Kim Jaehong, President of the Korea Hydrogen Alliance, presented insights on "The Status and Prospects of Korea's Hydrogen Economy," sharing perspectives on the changing landscape of the global hydrogen industry, future strategies, and the direction for Korea's hydrogen sector.


In the subsequent sessions, major domestic and international institutions and companies-including AVL, Lloyd's Register, Amogy, S Mobility, and POSCO Holdings-presented various innovative cases, such as next-generation fuel cell and electrolyzer technologies, hydrogen vessel safety certification, ammonia-based fuel conversion technologies, and demonstrations of hydrogen-based steelmaking.


J?rgen Rechberger, Head of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Energy at AVL, presented on "Development of Next-Generation Fuel Cell and Electrolyzer Systems to Overcome Business Limitations in the Hydrogen Industry." Thomas Beyer, Head of Fuel Cell Technology at Lloyd's Register, discussed "The Role of Classification Societies in the Hydrogen Era."


Woosung Hoon, CEO of Amogy, presented on "Ammonia: The Key to the Hydrogen Economy." Kim Minseok, CEO of S Mobility, spoke about "Utilization of Fuel Cells for a Hydrogen Society." Choi Janghoe, Head of Carbon Neutral Strategy at POSCO Holdings, shared the "Status of Korea-Style Hydrogen-Based Steelmaking Technology Development," outlining industrial possibilities for expanding hydrogen utilization and strategies for technological innovation.


During the panel discussion, Kim Jaekyung, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Energy Economics Institute, served as moderator. Shin Kyungjong, Head of Energy Business at Pohang Technopark; Lee Hanwoo, Head of Energy Technology Support at Ulsan Technopark; Kim Manjong, Head of Energy Center at Gangwon Technopark; and Park Chankyu, Head of the Future Environment Energy Center at the Korea Testing Laboratory, engaged in in-depth discussions on strategies for establishing a wide-area hydrogen innovation cluster along the East Coast and fostering regional cooperation.


The "Hydrogen-Specialized City PR Hall" set up in the event lobby attracted attention by introducing Pohang's major hydrogen projects and policy vision to citizens and participants.


Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "This forum provided a meaningful opportunity to discuss the future of the hydrogen economy and laid the groundwork for Pohang to grow as a central hub of the national hydrogen industry. We will continue to foster Pohang as a leading city in the hydrogen economy through technological innovation and expansion of the industrial ecosystem."
