Sokcho Port Wins "Asia Excellent Port Award" at Shanghai International Cruise Summit

Gangwon Province, Sokcho City, and Gangwon Tourism Organization Achieve Collaborative Success
Sokcho Port Honored as "Asia Excellent Port"
Recognized for Attracting Global Cruise Lines

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae), Sokcho City, and the Gangwon Tourism Organization (hereinafter referred to as "the Organization") announced on November 6 that Sokcho Port received the "Asia Excellent Port Award (Emerging Cruise Port Development Award)" at the "2025 Shanghai International Cruise Summit" held in Shanghai, China.

This event, co-hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Government and global cruise operator Royal Caribbean International, is the largest cruise industry conference in Asia. Delegations from major cruise ports around the world and global cruise lines attended to share industry insights and strengthen collaborative networks.


Sokcho Port was recognized for its achievements in expanding the attraction of overseas cruise lines, improving port call environments, and revitalizing connections with local tourism, which led to this award. In particular, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, Sokcho City, and the Gangwon Tourism Organization have jointly promoted international cruise attraction marketing since 2016, successfully bringing global cruise ships such as Costa Cruises, Silversea, and Holland America Line to call at Sokcho, thereby demonstrating international competitiveness.


Choi Sunghyun, CEO of the Gangwon Tourism Organization, stated, "By actively attracting overseas cruise lines, we will bring more international tourists to Gangwon and contribute to revitalizing the local economy."


Lee Donghee, Director of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Bureau of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, emphasized, "This award is highly meaningful as it is the result of Gangwon Province, Sokcho City, and the Organization working together to actively promote cruise attraction projects. Moving forward, we will continue to foster the cruise industry in the province from multiple angles and provide ongoing support so that Sokcho Port can establish itself as a central cruise port in the Pan-East Sea region."
