Igniting Fishing Village Vitality with 10 Billion Won... Yeongdeok County Selected for 2026 Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project

Gyeongjeong Area Fishing Harbor Maintenance
Improving Residential Conditions

Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province has been finally selected for the '2026 Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project' hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. As a result, a project worth 10 billion won will be carried out in the Gyeongjeong 1, 2, and 3 port areas of Chuksan-myeon.

The Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project is a tailored initiative that builds on the achievements of the previous Fishing Village New Deal Project and the Fishing Village New Vitality Project. It aims to improve the living and safety infrastructure of fishing villages and harbors and invigorate the fishing village economy. The project is divided into economic leap and fishing village recovery types according to the size and characteristics of each fishing village.

Yeongdeok County will invest a total project budget of 10 billion won, including 7 billion won in national funding secured through this selection, over four years. The county will implement fishing harbor maintenance, improvements to the residential environment of the adjacent fishing village, safety facility upgrades, and resident capacity-building programs as part of the fishing village recovery-type project. These efforts aim to enhance the stability of the Gyeongjeong area village and improve the quality of life for its residents.

Until now, residents of the Gyeongjeong area in Yeongdeok County have strongly desired improvements to their residential environment. However, the lack of living and safety infrastructure and frequent natural disasters such as storm surges caused by typhoons have caused significant inconvenience.

In particular, at the end of March, a major wildfire that originated in Uiseong caused severe damage, further compounding the difficulties and hardships faced by residents in the Gyeongjeong area. Amid these challenges, the selection for this project is expected to serve as a turning point for recovery from wildfire damage and for improving the living and economic conditions of the residents.

Accordingly, Yeongdeok County is determined to ensure the successful implementation of the Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project, aiming to dramatically improve the residential environment in the Gyeongjeong area. The county is committed to preventing population outflow and revitalizing the local community by making every effort to carry out the project.

County Governor Kim Kwangyeol stated, "We are redoubling our efforts to strengthen internal capabilities so that we can continue the achievements of being selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project in 2023, 2024, and again in 2026. With this selection, we will do our utmost to overcome wildfire damage and fundamentally improve the living and economic conditions of our residents."
