Dongducheon City Holds 1st Sports Promotion Council, Reestablishes Sports Promotion Fund

Dongducheon City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Hyungdeok Park) held the "2025 1st Dongducheon City Sports Promotion Council" on the 5th at the city hall situation room, discussing the reestablishment of the Sports Promotion Fund and the direction for local sports development.

This council meeting was convened to review and approve an operational plan for reestablishing the Sports Promotion Fund, which was abolished in 2021, after four years. It also served as an opportunity to share the achievements of sports initiatives in 2025 and plans for 2026.

The city has been promoting citizen-oriented sports policies centered on the newly established Sports and Tourism Division this year, such as expanding participation in daily sports, strengthening the foundation for professional sports, and revitalizing sports for people with disabilities. Next year, Dongducheon plans to fully launch systematic support projects using the Sports Promotion Fund, including expanding sports facilities in residential areas and establishing a phased athlete development system.

The council brought together relevant organizations, including the city's sports department, the Sports Council, the Disabled Sports Council, the Office of Education, and the City Council, marking their first official collaboration and laying the foundation for cooperation in local sports development.

Mayor Hyungdeok Park stated, "Sports are a key driver of citizens' health, happiness, and urban vitality," adding, "We will build a city united through sports, centered around the Sports Promotion Council."

Going forward, Dongducheon City will continue its efforts to become a 'sports city that empowers citizens' by expanding infrastructure such as park golf courses and daily sports centers, and by creating a sports environment that all generations can enjoy together.
