Gwangju City Nominates Moon Seokhwan as President of Gwangju Transportation Corporation

On November 6, Gwangju City announced that it has nominated Moon Seokhwan, Chairman of the Park Kwanhyun Memorial Foundation, as the candidate for the 9th President of Gwangju Transportation Corporation. The city selected Chairman Moon, who was the top candidate among the two recommended by the Transportation Corporation’s Executive Recommendation Committee, as the final candidate.

Moon Seokhwan will be officially appointed by the Mayor of Gwangju once the personnel hearing at the Gwangju City Council is completed and the report is adopted, which is scheduled for November 27. He is an expert in asset and financial management, having worked as an appraiser for over 20 years, and has served as Chairman of the Park Kwanhyun Memorial Foundation and as a board member of the May 18 Memorial Foundation. Gwangju City described Moon as a professional manager with extensive experience in public service and social responsibility.

The city also stated, "Moon is the right person to lead the public service and innovation of the Transportation Corporation, which serves as the lifeline for citizens," and added, "We expect him to spearhead the stable opening and operation of Urban Railway Line 2 and to drive citizen-centered innovation in the city’s transportation system." The president of the Transportation Corporation serves a three-year term, which is governed by higher-level laws rather than Gwangju City ordinances, and therefore does not coincide with the mayor’s term.
