Listening to Firsthand Voices at Oesam Middle School in Daejeon
Kim Daehyun, the Second Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "We will listen carefully to students' opinions and work together to develop practical support measures, such as providing sports instructors and preparing a variety of activity programs."
Vice Minister Kim made these remarks at a field meeting to gather opinions on measures to revitalize school sports, which was organized by the Daejeon Office of Education on the 5th at Oesam Middle School in Daejeon.
This meeting was arranged to directly hear the voices from the field of school sports and reflect them in policy, prompted by the National Assembly's decision to increase the budget for the "One Student, One Sport" initiative.
More than ten people attended the meeting, including Kim Daehyun, the Second Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; students and teachers from Oesam Middle School in Daejeon; representatives from the Daejeon Office of Education; the Korea Sports Council; the Daejeon Sports Council; and the Yuseong District Sports Council. The participants visited a school sports club class and listened to students' firsthand opinions.
Student representatives from the Oesam Middle School sports club shared the effects of physical activities, saying, "Relieving adolescent stress and improving physical fitness have had a positive impact on our academic performance."
They also suggested, "It is necessary to expand the budget so that we can use local sports facilities more freely and receive transportation support when participating in competitions for school sports club activities."
The students expressed their hope that, in addition to the existing school sports club competitions, a wider variety of events and formats would be offered.
Based on the field opinions gathered at this meeting, the direction for promoting school sports policy projects will be explored.
