The police have launched a full-scale investigation into the manager of an LG Electronics dealership who disappeared after receiving payments for home appliances from engaged couples preparing for marriage.
On November 6, the Dongdaemun Police Station in Seoul announced that it had placed an overseas travel ban on Manager A, who is under suspicion of fraud and other charges.
Manager A is accused of collecting payments ranging from several million to tens of millions of won from customers, including engaged couples, for home appliances and then disappearing.
The total amount of damages is reportedly in the hundreds of millions of won.
The police plan to continue their investigation by obtaining warrants to track Manager A’s bank accounts and communication records, and by analyzing account and mobile phone usage data.
LG Electronics stated, "We have decided to proactively compensate affected customers," adding, "We will implement specific compensation measures as soon as we have an accurate understanding of the customer damages."
