Dongtan City Hospital, an education cooperation hospital affiliated with Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong, has become the first in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province to introduce an artificial intelligence (AI)-based smart ward. In partnership with Daewoong Pharmaceutical and Sears Technology, the hospital has implemented the smart bed monitoring system 'thynC' across all beds, creating a new AI-driven medical environment.
According to Daewoong Pharmaceutical on November 6, Dongtan City Hospital held a groundbreaking ceremony for the smart ward on October 23 at the hospital’s main building in Hwaseong. The ceremony was attended by Kim Miyoung, Administrative Director of Dongtan City Hospital, key hospital executives, Cho Byungha, Head of Business Division at Daewoong Pharmaceutical, and Kang Daeyeob, Vice President of Sears Technology, among others.

This is the first case of an 'AI smart ward' established in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. Dongtan City Hospital decided to install thynC in all 90 beds to enhance patient safety and improve the efficiency of medical staff work.
'thynC' collects and analyzes key vital signs in real time-including heart rate, respiration, body temperature, oxygen saturation, and ECG-through wearable sensors attached to patients. If any abnormal signs are detected, an immediate alert is sent to medical staff, ensuring that the golden time can be secured even in emergency situations. In particular, it allows patient monitoring at any time, even in environments where observation is difficult, such as at night or in isolation wards. This provides patients with a stable treatment environment and relieves caregivers of the burden of care, offering them psychological reassurance.
Additionally, thynC is a solution equipped with both a fall detection sensor and integration with electronic medical records (EMR). When signs of a patient fall are detected, an immediate alarm is triggered to prevent unexpected accidents. Furthermore, vital sign records are automatically reflected in the EMR, reducing the repetitive manual data entry work previously required from medical staff and allowing them to focus more on personalized nursing and treatment. Most importantly, the use of AI-collected and analyzed data enables more accurate clinical decisions, which is expected to improve the overall quality of medical services.
With the introduction of thynC, Dongtan City Hospital aims to become a leading hospital in the digital transformation of local healthcare services. The hospital is set to open a new annex this month and plans to expand its bed capacity from 90 to 180 beds, along with establishing an AI imaging diagnosis center. Through these efforts, the hospital seeks to further strengthen its university hospital-level medical environment and solidify its role as a regional hub hospital.
Kim Miyoung, Administrative Director of Dongtan City Hospital, stated, "The AI smart ward is a project that embodies Dongtan City Hospital’s commitment to prioritizing patient safety. We will create a ward environment where both medical staff and caregivers can feel secure and set a new standard for local healthcare."
Cho Byungha, Head of the Digital Healthcare Business Division, said, "Dongtan City Hospital is a leading medical institution in the Hwaseong and Dongtan areas. By introducing thynC, the hospital has taken the first step toward providing smart healthcare services that local residents can truly experience. Daewoong Pharmaceutical will continue to collaborate with Dongtan City Hospital to improve the quality of local healthcare and take the lead in building a digital healthcare ecosystem."
Meanwhile, as a regional hub hospital, Dongtan City Hospital is establishing an environment where local residents can receive more accessible and effective care through a customized integrated treatment system that includes collaboration across various departments, such as spine and joint care.
