Hanyang Securities announced on October 22 that, just six months after establishing a global investment banking (IB) division within its Capital Markets Headquarters in March this year-focusing on syndicate loans as well as private bond underwriting, arrangement, and advisory services-it has successfully closed a series of major overseas fundraising deals.
The division recently completed a variety of projects, including an 85 million euro loan for Nexen Tire's Czech subsidiary, acting as syndication agent for a 250 billion won loan to Hanwha Ocean, arranging a 70 million US dollar loan for Hyundai Steel, and providing advisory services for a 50 billion won loan to Daishin F&I.
In March, Hanyang Securities recruited global finance expert Noh Hyungseok as the leader of its global IB division and has since been expanding its business into global markets. Noh, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a degree in economics, is an expert with over 15 years of experience in corporate finance, syndication, ECA export finance, and global IB arrangement at both domestic and international financial institutions, including HSBC, China Construction Bank (CCB), Credit Agricole, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), and BNK Investment & Securities.
The Hanyang Securities global IB division leverages its network of over 500 overseas financial institutions to help Korean companies secure funding on competitive terms in global markets. The company emphasized that it has established a comprehensive system covering specialized fields such as legal, tax, and structural design, and has enhanced efficiency by directly sourcing deals and making swift decisions through its global network. In addition to large-scale projects for major corporations, the company is also pursuing a "niche IB strategy" to support overseas fundraising and emerging market entry for mid-sized and small businesses.
Noh stated, "Until now, we have focused on debt-based transactions such as syndicate loans, but going forward, we plan to expand into equity-based transactions with listed companies on overseas exchanges such as NASDAQ in the United States, IDX in Indonesia, and SET in Thailand. By combining our global network with our capital markets expertise, we aim to provide comprehensive overseas financial solutions that cover both debt and equity."
Hanyang Securities plans to further strengthen its global financial service capabilities by expanding cooperation not only with overseas financial institutions but also with local law firms, accounting firms, and other investment banks. A representative from Hanyang Securities said, "Our goal is to build a global IB platform that goes beyond simple financial arrangement to include structuring and consulting functions."
