Chae Sooyang Appointed Head of Joint Investigation Team for "Customs Drug Probe External Pressure Allegations" at Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office

Chae Sooyang, Chief Prosecutor of the Major Economic Crime Investigation Division at the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office (age 56, 32nd class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), has been appointed as the head of the government joint investigation team for the "Customs Drug Investigation External Pressure Allegations" at the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office.

On October 22, the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office announced that Chief Prosecutor Chae was appointed as the head of the joint investigation team the previous day and reported for his first day at the office.


Chief Prosecutor Chae will oversee both the joint investigation team led by Chief Prosecutor Yoon Gukkwon and the investigation team headed by Superintendent Park Haeryong.


He previously served as the Human Rights Supervision Officer at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and as Chief Prosecutor of the Major Economic Crime Investigation Division 2 at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office. In 2018, while serving as Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office, he indicted former President Chun Doohwan on charges of defaming the late Father Cho Bi-o and others during the 5·18 Democratization Movement.
