Busan Aims to Become a Quantum Science and Technology City... 4th Busan Quantum Frontier Forum to Be Held

Exploring Strategies for Connecting Quantum Technology and Industry
Active Participation from IBM and D-Wave Experts

A forum will be held to promote the expansion of Busan's quantum information technology ecosystem.


The Busan Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) announced that it will host the "4th Busan Quantum Frontier Forum" at 2 p.m. on October 21 at the Conference Hall of the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center. The event is organized by the Busan Metropolitan Government and hosted by the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency.


The forum aims to seek ways to connect quantum science and technology with industry and to expand the foundation of Busan's quantum information technology ecosystem through information exchange. The program will proceed in the following order: policy introduction, invited lectures, and panel discussion.


First, in the "Introduction to Domestic Quantum Science and Technology Policies" session, Shim Joosub, Director of Quantum Innovation Technology Development at the Ministry of Science and ICT, will present on "Directions of Quantum Science and Technology Policy"; Kim Younghee, Head of the Quantum Technology Utilization Center at the National Information Society Agency, will present on "Support for Quantum Technology Industrialization"; and Lee Seunghee, Senior Advisor at the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, will present on "Current Status and Plans for Building Busan's Quantum Ecosystem."


In the following "Busan Quantum Ecosystem Development Projects and Lectures" session, Kim Minseong, Executive Director of Business Development at IBM, will speak on "Building the Quantum Computing Ecosystem: Talent Development," and Kim Dongho, Vice President of Megazone Cloud, will present on "Designing the Future of Quantum-Based Cloud and Large-Scale Artificial Intelligence (AI)."


Additionally, Jeremy Woo, Principal Technical Advisor at D-Wave, will discuss "Busan-D-Wave Collaboration Plans," and Jung Jaeho, Head of the Quantum Project Group at Yonsei University, will give a lecture on "The Story of Korea's First Quantum Computer: A Surgeon Meets Quantum Computing, the Future of Cancer Treatment."


The panel discussion will focus on "Directions for the Development of Busan's Quantum Ecosystem." Jeong Jinwoong, Head of the G-LAMP Center at Dong-A University, will introduce the project, and Kim Jaewan, Head of Research at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science, will serve as moderator.


This forum is open to all citizens interested in quantum science and technology, free of charge. Participants can register online in advance or on-site on the day of the event.


The Busan Metropolitan Government views quantum technology as a "game changer for future industries" and is committed to building the foundation of the quantum industry ecosystem. To this end, it is pursuing initiatives such as establishing a basic plan for quantum industry development, signing a business agreement on the quantum industry with Pusan National University, fostering talent in cooperation with specialized companies such as IBM and Megazone Cloud, and building a global network and industry development strategies.


Lee Joonseung, Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs of Busan, stated, "I hope this forum serves as a stepping stone for establishing a quantum cooperation zone and provides an opportunity for the local industry to make a 'quantum jump.' We will support Busan's leap forward as a leading city in quantum technology by fostering collaboration among industry, academia, and research institutions."
