Courts, Prosecutors, Chonnam National University, and Education Offices to Be Audited for One Week
Misconduct Allegations Against GIST President and Suncheon Animation Project in the Spotlight
Regional Audit Schedule Concludes with Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority on the 27th
The National Assembly audit targeting Gwangju and South Jeolla Province will begin on October 21. For one week, the audit will cover organizations including the courts and prosecutors’ offices, Chonnam National University and the Office of Education, the Asia Culture Center, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, and Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority.
According to the National Assembly on September 28, the Legislation and Judiciary Committee will conduct an audit of the Gwangju District and High Courts, as well as the Gwangju District Prosecutors’ Office, on October 21.
On October 22, the Education Committee will audit Chonnam National University, Chonnam National University Hospital, and the Offices of Education in Gwangju and South Jeolla Province. These audits will take place at Chonbuk National University and the Daegu Office of Education.
On October 23, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee will audit the Asia Culture Center, while the Strategy and Finance Committee will audit the Gwangju and Mokpo branches of the Bank of Korea, the Gwangju Regional Tax Office, and the Honam Regional Statistics Office. The audit by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee will be held at the National Assembly, while the Strategy and Finance Committee’s audit will take place at the Daejeon Regional Tax Office.
On October 24, the Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee will audit the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) and the National Gwangju Science Museum. Lim Ki-chul, the president of GIST, who was recently referred to the prosecution on defamation charges, is expected to appear as a witness and face questions regarding alleged misconduct.
On October 27, the Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries Committee will audit the Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority, concluding the National Assembly audit schedule for the Gwangju and South Jeolla region.
The Environment and Labor Committee and the Health and Welfare Committee are currently coordinating their schedules. The Environment and Labor Committee is expected to address the issue of migrant workers’ rights, while the Health and Welfare Committee is likely to discuss the establishment of a new national medical school.
Additionally, regarding allegations that First Lady Kim Keonhee is involved in an animation project promoted by Suncheon City, Noh Gwan-gyu, the mayor of Suncheon, will appear as a witness at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s audit on October 14.
The administrative safety committee’s audit of Gwangju City and South Jeolla Province, which is usually conducted every other year, was held simultaneously last year and is therefore excluded from on-site audits this year. As a result, the provincial police agencies will also be skipped.
