Im Miae Elected as Chairman of the Democratic Party's Gyeongbuk Provincial Committee

"Strengthening Party Member Sovereignty and Addressing Regional Issues"
Full-Scale Launch of Local Election Strategy

The Democratic Party of Korea's Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Committee has welcomed a new leader ahead of next year's local elections. On September 28, Assemblywoman Im Miae, a proportional representative, was elected as the new chairman of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Committee, signaling the beginning of a reshaping of the region's political landscape.

Im Miae Elected as Chairman of the Democratic Party's Gyeongbuk Provincial Committee On the 28th, Im Miae, a proportional representative member of the National Assembly, was elected as the chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea's Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Committee.

The Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Committee's Election Management Committee held a vote among party members with voting rights on September 26 and 27, followed by a vote among national delegates on September 28. At the provincial party conference held that day at the Stanford Hotel in Andong, Assemblywoman Im was confirmed as chairman. Her official term will begin after approval by the central party's Supreme Council.

◆ Pledge to "Expand Grassroots Workers"... Commanding the Local Elections

In her acceptance speech, Chairman Im stated, "In next year's local elections, I will ensure that as many grassroots workers as possible are elected," and emphasized, "Along with the success of President Lee Jaemyung's administration, I will lay the foundation for victory in Gyeongbuk."

In particular, she presented reform tasks such as ▲ strengthening party member sovereignty, ▲ establishing online and offline platforms, ▲ revitalizing local committees, ▲ fostering young politicians, and ▲ operating systematic education programs. Her commitment goes beyond simply winning elections, highlighting a focus on party member-based democracy and organizational innovation.

◆ Addressing Regional Issues, Testing the Party's Standing

Chairman Im also announced a policy drive, stating, "I will resolve long-standing regional issues such as establishing a medical school in Gyeongbuk, developing hydrogen reduction steelmaking in Pohang, and advancing the semiconductor and secondary battery industries in Gumi." This strategy is interpreted as the Democratic Party, which has a weak base in the region, aiming to broaden its support by addressing practical, everyday issues.

Political circles assess that Chairman Im's tasks go beyond simply leading election campaigns, touching on the fundamental question of what kind of relationship the Democratic Party, as a political party, will establish with the Gyeongbuk community.

◆ Expert Assessment: "A Test of the Democratic Party's Presence in Gyeongbuk"

Local political experts analyze that this appointment holds significance beyond a simple personnel change. One professor of political science commented, "The Democratic Party has long struggled to gain a foothold in Gyeongbuk. If Chairman Im's proposed reforms are realized, the party's presence in the region could change significantly."

However, the structural limitations of Gyeongbuk as a conservative stronghold, the tides of central politics, and potential discord during the nomination process remain major variables.

"The election of Assemblywoman Im Miae as chairman of the provincial party committee is close to a declaration that the Democratic Party intends to strengthen both its organizational capacity and policy alternatives in Gyeongbuk. Next year's local elections will not simply be a competition for seats, but a watershed moment for rebuilding the foundation of the Democratic Party in Gyeongbuk, which is why Chairman Im's actions are drawing significant attention from the local political community."
