146,100 Visitors in 19 Days, 36 Cultural Events Held
Boosting Sales for Small Businesses
Establishing Itself as a Nighttime Tourism Attraction
The summer "Ulsan Night, Story Night Market," which ran for about two months from July 18 to September 13, concluded successfully.
Hosted by Ulsan City and organized by the Ulsan Culture and Tourism Foundation, the night market attracted an average of 7,690 visitors per day, with a total of 146,100 visitors, lighting up Ulsan’s summer nights.
This summer’s Story Night Market provided tangible support for small business owners and established itself as a new tourist attraction in Ulsan.
Through photo and video exhibitions and expert commentary, the night market promoted the global heritage value of the Bangudae Petroglyphs. Various hands-on programs also offered citizens opportunities to directly experience the historical and cultural significance of the site.
Additionally, Taehwagang National Garden became a central venue for local festivals, allowing citizens to enjoy not only the night market but also a variety of nearby cultural and tourism resources.
By linking with other events held during the same period, such as "Let’s Play Summer in Ulsan" and the "Taehwagang Bamboo Forest Summer Festival," the cultural festivities were further expanded. As a result, the Story Night Market has become a leading nighttime tourism content in Ulsan.
Total sales for this summer’s night market reached 240 million won.
Thirty-seven teams of small business owners participated, offering a wide range of food such as Whale Rice Cake, meringue cookies, handmade gelato, naturally fermented bread, and petroglyph cookies, as well as unique products and experience programs like novelty soaps, woodcraft accessories, Bangudae Petroglyph souvenirs, custom T-shirts, petroglyph textile products, lacquered wooden kitchenware, petroglyph-patterned socks, and pet supplies, all of which received an enthusiastic response.
The average daily sales amounted to 12.47 million won, with each booth earning an average of 430,000 won per day and 8.17 million won over the entire event period.
Participating vendors expressed high satisfaction, saying, "It was a great help during the challenging summer season, and we definitely want to participate in the next night market."
In addition, a total of 20 teams, including young artists from Ulsan and local cultural and arts organizations, took part in the cultural events, staging busking performances twice a day for a total of 36 sessions, which enlivened the atmosphere.
At the "Ulsan Sensibility Mailbox" booth, impromptu talk shows and song requests based on stories submitted by citizens were held more than five times a day, drawing significant attention.
An official from the city said, "We are grateful for the strong interest and support from citizens for the summer Story Night Market," adding, "We will thoroughly prepare for the upcoming Christmas Market to provide an even more satisfying and special experience."
Ulsan City plans to hold the "Christmas Market," a winter festival with a Christmas theme, at Ulsan Grand Park this December. The city is preparing wonderful photo zones and a variety of programs that will allow families and couples to fully enjoy the romance of winter together.
