Jindo County in Jeollanam-do has newly hired one senior doctor for the first time in the province through a public recruitment project promoted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the National Medical Center.
According to the county on September 16, a senior doctor refers to an experienced physician who wishes to continue working in the medical field after retirement. This recruitment was carried out to address the realities of rural and fishing communities, where the elderly population ratio is high and there is a shortage of medical personnel.
After being selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare's "Senior Doctor Utilization Pilot Project," the county began the recruitment process in earnest. Given the current difficulties in securing public health doctors, the addition of a senior doctor is expected to greatly help resolve the medical gap.
The newly hired senior doctor will be responsible for providing medical consultations and treatment to residents at the Jindo County Public Health Center. The doctor will also participate in vaccination programs and public health prevention initiatives, thereby improving local residents' access to medical services.
Kim Heesu, Governor of Jindo County, stated, "The experience and capabilities of a senior doctor will be a great asset to our region, which is struggling with an aging population and a shortage of medical personnel. We will do our best to ensure that residents receive smoother medical services in areas such as patient care, health consultations, chronic disease management, and vaccinations."
The county public health center plans to further strengthen various healthcare support measures to ensure that all residents can stably receive the medical services they need.
