Starting from October 1, Incheon City will expand its public transportation fare support for households with newborn children.
On September 16, the city announced the launch of the "i-Plus (i+) Fare Dream" program, which adds benefits for parents of newborns to the existing "Incheon I-Pass" public transportation discount policy. Under this program, parents who have a child will receive a 50% Incheon I-Pass reimbursement rate for their first child and a 70% reimbursement rate for their second child and beyond, for up to seven years.
As a result, parents residing in Incheon who have registered the birth of their child on or after January 1 of this year will be eligible to receive a monthly reimbursement of 50% to 70% of the public transportation fares they use until the year before their child enters elementary school.
The Incheon I-Pass, introduced last year for all city residents, is a public transportation discount policy covering buses and subways, offering a 20% reimbursement on public transportation fares (30% for young adults and 53% for low-income residents).
To apply for the public transportation fare support for households with newborns, parents must first obtain a government-issued K-Pass transportation card, then register the card number and sign up as a member on the K-Pass website. Existing Incheon I-Pass users must also apply separately on the K-Pass website to receive the newly introduced support benefits for households with newborns.
Advance applications will be accepted starting at 9 a.m. on September 25.
Following the first transportation welfare policy, "Incheon I-Pass," and the second, "Metropolitan I-Pass," the city has now introduced the third policy, "i-Plus (i+) Fare Dream," to help reduce the cost of living for citizens during this period of high inflation.
An Incheon City official stated, "This program is a customized transportation welfare policy based on the unlimited public transportation benefits of the 'Incheon I-Pass,' which has been in operation since last year. We expect it to ease the transportation cost burden for parents of newborns and contribute to increasing the birth rate."
