Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jinseon) announced on the 16th that it has achieved the honor of producing multiple award winners at the '2025 Gyeonggi Province Adult Literacy Education Poetry and Painting Exhibition' and the '21st National Adult Literacy Learners Writing Contest,' including one Excellence Award, four Encouragement Awards, and one Lifelong Learning Award.
This year's Gyeonggi Province Poetry and Painting Exhibition was held under the theme 'Literacy, The World Looks Different,' with competitions in poetry-painting and postcard categories. A total of 751 learners from across the province submitted works on the topics of 'happiness through learning,' 'changes in daily life,' and 'digital literacy education.'
From Yangpyeong County, a learner named Moon** from Dreamkkum Classroom in Gangha-myeon received the Excellence Award in the poetry-painting category for the piece titled 'Our Mom.' Learners Kwon** ('Now, Truly Good' / Neulbom Classroom, Yangpyeong-eup), Kim** ('My Dream' / Mirae Somang Classroom, Yangpyeong-eup), and Kim** ('The Road to Hometown' / Haetbit Classroom, Danwol-myeon) each received Encouragement Awards.
Meanwhile, at the '21st National Adult Literacy Learners Writing Contest' hosted by the National Literacy Education Association, Bae** from Neulbom Classroom in Yangpyeong-eup received an Encouragement Award in the Level 2 Literacy category, while Cha** was honored with the Lifelong Learning Award.
Jeon Jinseon, Governor of Yangpyeong County, stated, "These awards are the valuable result of our seniors' unwavering passion for learning," adding, "We will continue to actively support our residents so they can pursue lifelong learning."
Currently, Yangpyeong County operates ten classrooms to improve the basic and practical literacy skills of non-literate learners. Among them, the Yangpyeong County Lifelong Learning Center, Yongmun-myeon Community Center, and Gangha-myeon Community Center offer accredited adult literacy education classes, where graduates can obtain elementary school equivalency.
