Korea Consumer Agency Compares Quality of 12 Loin and Cheese Pork Cutlets
Fat and Protein Content Varies by Up to 1.5 Times
"Pairing with Rice and Salad Helps Balance Nutrition"
The Korea Consumer Agency announced on September 16 that, after testing and evaluating the quality and safety of 12 frozen pork cutlet products sold on the market, it found up to a 1.5-fold difference in fat and protein content among products of the same type.
According to the survey, the fat content per 100g of frozen pork cutlets was 16 to 24g for loin pork cutlets and 18 to 25g for cheese pork cutlets. Among the loin pork cutlets, Dongwon F&B's "Cuisine Crispy Pork Cutlet Whole Loin" had the highest fat content at 24g (44% of the daily nutritional value), while among cheese pork cutlets, both Emart's "No Brand Whole Loin Cheese Pork Cutlet" and Dongwon F&B's "Cuisine Crispy Pork Cutlet Mozzarella Cheese" had the highest at 25g (46%).

The products with the lowest fat content among loin pork cutlets were Nonghyup Mokuchon's "Mokuchon Twice-Fried Extra Crispy Whole Loin Pork Cutlet," Lotte Wellfood's "Chef Food Loin Pork Cutlet," and Homeplus's "Homemeal Domestic Pork Whole Loin Pork Cutlet," each with 16g (30%). For cheese pork cutlets, Pulmuone Foods' "Pulmuone Block Cheese Donkatsu" had the lowest fat content at 18g (33%).
The protein content of loin pork cutlets and cheese pork cutlets ranged from 11 to 16g and 15 to 21g, respectively. Among loin pork cutlets, Nonghyup Mokuchon's "Mokuchon Twice-Fried Extra Crispy Whole Loin Pork Cutlet" and Homeplus's "Homemeal Domestic Pork Whole Loin Pork Cutlet" had the highest protein content at 16g (29%). For cheese pork cutlets, Pulmuone Foods' "Pulmuone Block Cheese Donkatsu" had the highest protein content at 21g (38%).
On the other hand, Dongwon F&B's "Cuisine Crispy Pork Cutlet Whole Loin" had the lowest protein content among loin pork cutlets at 11g (20%). For cheese pork cutlets, Emart's "No Brand Whole Loin Cheese Pork Cutlet," Dongwon F&B's "Cuisine Crispy Pork Cutlet Mozzarella Cheese," and CJ CheilJedang's "Gourmet Mozzarella Donkatsu" all had the same protein content at 15g (27%).
The Korea Consumer Agency explained, "Frozen pork cutlets have relatively high fat and protein content compared to the daily nutritional value, while carbohydrate content is relatively low," and added, "To achieve a balanced meal, pairing pork cutlets with rice and salad can help supplement nutrients evenly."
In the consumer sensory evaluation of cooked pork cutlets, Lotte Wellfood's "Chef Food Loin Pork Cutlet" received relatively high scores for attributes such as "crispiness of the batter, tenderness of the meat, and thickness of the meat" among loin pork cutlets. For cheese pork cutlets, Pulmuone Foods' "Pulmuone Block Cheese Donkatsu" received relatively high evaluations for "meat texture, chewiness of the cheese, and amount of cheese."
Additionally, tests for heavy metals (lead, cadmium) and microorganisms (enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli) in the surveyed products detected none of these substances. The agency also analyzed volatile basic nitrogen to check the freshness of the meat used in frozen pork cutlets and reported that all products met the relevant standards.
The price per 100g of the surveyed frozen pork cutlets ranged from 1,976 to 3,160 won for loin pork cutlets and from 1,773 to 2,852 won for cheese pork cutlets, showing up to a 1.6-fold difference among products of the same type. By product, CJ CheilJedang's "Gourmet Whole Loin Donkatsu" was the cheapest among loin pork cutlets at 1,976 won, while Lotte Wellfood's "Chef Food Loin Pork Cutlet" was the most expensive at 3,160 won.
Among cheese pork cutlets, Emart's "No Brand Whole Loin Cheese Pork Cutlet" was the cheapest at 1,773 won, and Pulmuone Foods' "Pulmuone Block Cheese Donkatsu" was the most expensive at 2,852 won.
The Korea Consumer Agency stated that it will continue to provide information on the quality and safety of various frozen foods through "Consumer24" to support rational consumption by consumers.
