An exhibition featuring the works of over 30 master artisans, including Korea’s Master Craftsmen and Daejeon City’s Master Artisans, will be held.

Daejeon City will host the 16th Master Artisan Exhibition from September 17 to 20 at the exhibition hall of the Daejeon Artists’ House.

This year’s exhibition will showcase more than 300 works in a wide range of fields, including seals, seal engraving, floral design, stone crafts, and confectionery and baking, created by over 30 participating artisans.

The exhibition will present the works of Korea’s Master Craftsmen, who are recognized as the highest level in the nation, alongside signature works by Daejeon City’s Master Artisans who are active in fields closely related to citizens’ daily lives. In addition, works that blend tradition and art-such as ceramics, embroidery, folk painting, and wood carving-will be exhibited, offering visitors a comprehensive look at the broad world of craftsmanship.

Citizen-participation programs will also be available. Throughout the exhibition, a variety of hands-on events will be held, including hair beads, seal crafts, ceramics, embroidery, nail art, and woodworking experiences. Demonstrations of calligraphy, wood carving, embroidery, and hair art will be held continuously during the event, allowing visitors to experience the artisans’ skills firsthand.

The opening ceremony will take place at 3:00 p.m. on September 17 in Exhibition Room 2 on the third floor of the Daejeon Artists’ House. The event will bring together Daejeon City officials, artisans, and citizens to honor the achievements of local skilled technicians and reaffirm their commitment to passing on these traditions.

This exhibition, now in its 16th year since its inception in 2010, is hosted by Daejeon City and organized by the Daejeon Regional Headquarters of the Human Resources Development Service of Korea and the Daejeon Metropolitan City Master Artisan Association.

The Daejeon Metropolitan City Master Artisan Association has been consistently engaged in community contribution activities. To mark this exhibition, the association plans to donate 350 kilograms of white rice to the Daejeon City Love Food Sharing Center to support neighbors in need.

Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, "This Master Artisan Exhibition is a meaningful event that shares the spirit of craftsmanship, which bridges tradition and modernity, with citizens." He emphasized, "Following last year’s establishment of the Master Artisan Hall of Fame, Daejeon City is also preparing to launch a Master Artisan website this year, demonstrating our commitment to sharing the value and dignity of skilled craftsmanship with our citizens."

He added, "We will continue to support efforts to raise the status of skilled technicians and to promote a culture of craftsmanship that is shared with the community."
