'Eco-Friendly Materials Research'... Chonnam National University Launches G-LAMP Project Team The G-LAMP (Global Learning & Academic Research Institute for Masters, Ph.D. students and Postdocs) project team held an opening ceremony on the 11th at the Gwangju Bank Hall in Yongjigwan and officially announced its launch. Chonnam National University has laid the foundation to become a global research hub contributing to the resolution of humanity's energy and environmental challenges, and has embarked on full-scale eco-friendly materials and energy research as well as the establishment of a global collaborative research network.


According to Chonnam National University on September 16, the G-LAMP (Global Learning & Academic Research Institute for Masters, Ph.D. students and Postdocs) project team held an opening ceremony at the Gwangju Bank Hall in Yongjigwan on the 11th and officially announced its launch.


The event was attended by around 200 key figures, including Chonnam National University Vice Presidents Kim Yanghyun and Ko Seongseok, Faculty Association President Kim Minsu, Admissions Director Kim Kyungsoo, G-LAMP Project Team Council Chairperson Lee Hyunsik, Ministry of Education Academic Research Policy Division Director Chae Hongjun, and Korea Research Foundation Academic General Director Kim Changho.


The G-LAMP project team was selected in 2024 for an eco-friendly materials and energy research initiative and received a total of 25 billion KRW in funding. Based on this, the team is working to strengthen research capabilities, promote convergence research led by early-career researchers, innovate basic science research institutes, and establish domestic and international collaborative research networks. Through these efforts, the project team aims to actively contribute to solving energy and environmental issues and to achieve world-class research outcomes, ultimately becoming a global research hub.


The opening ceremony included the sharing of the project team's vision, congratulatory remarks from guests, an unveiling ceremony of the nameplate, and a commemorative photo session. Afterwards, a networking event was held to discuss future cooperation strategies.


Lee Hyunsik, Chairperson of the G-LAMP Project Team Council, stated, "The council will join the journey toward becoming a world-class research institute for eco-friendly materials and energy."


Chae Hongjun, Director at the Ministry of Education, emphasized, "While AI is important, basic science must take the lead," adding, "The leadership of the project director and the collaboration among researchers are more important than anything else."
