Bithumb Expands Mobile ID Authentication to Private Apps

On September 16, Bithumb announced that it will further expand its customer identification (KYC) services using mobile identification cards. After becoming the first in Korea to simultaneously support both mobile resident registration cards and mobile driver's licenses, Bithumb is now differentiating itself by expanding authentication options to include not only government apps but also major private financial apps.

Bithumb Expands Mobile ID Authentication to Private Apps

In line with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's policy to expand the issuance of mobile identification cards through private apps, Bithumb has decided to extend its support for mobile ID authentication to major financial platforms. Bithumb now enables mobile ID authentication through the following apps: KakaoBank, Toss, Naver, KB Star Banking, NH All One Bank, Samsung Wallet, and the government app. For iOS users, authentication is available via KakaoBank, Toss, and the government app. Currently, Bithumb is the only exchange that supports authentication through both government and private apps simultaneously.

Starting from the Bithumb app update on September 15, users can select either a private app or the government app to authenticate their mobile resident registration card or driver's license, which they obtained during the KYC process.

Mobile identification cards are stored in an encrypted format within the device's secure area, so no data remains on a central server, minimizing the risk of hacking. In addition, blockchain technology is used to verify whether the card has been tampered with, as well as to confirm the issuing authority and expiration status, providing a high level of security.

A Bithumb representative stated, "This expansion of mobile identification card support is part of our efforts to provide customers with a more convenient and secure authentication environment," adding, "We will continue to innovate so that customers can trade more easily and safely, in line with the government's digital innovation policies."
